Zuill Bailey’s palm print on these Suites brings the music to life, and shows his attention to every note and every nuance of understanding of the emotional appeal of Bach. From the popular Prelude to the First Suite, which makes sense Sarabande of the fifth suite, Bailey’s technique, artistry and finesse to this recording experience and a prejudice in close proximity to halten.Bailey not only the heart but in his thoughtful mind discussion the music of Bach and his experience in his recent interview on NPR’s Weekend Edition. Zuill Bailey makes classical music accessible and enjoyable for the masses. Even if you do not have existing knowledge of the Bach suites for solo cello and are usually new and classic music, you will be moved completely from the natural poetry of music and his interpretation of Bach’s musical voice. His mastery of his 1693 Matteo Gofriller cello sounds closer to a person’s voice to speak, instead of notes from one instrument. It feels passionately through the romantic style of music, especially the smoky Sarabande, but are transported at the same time, as if one comes home. Bailey has an excellent job in not in the way of the music, but we also recommend his live performances, by his charisma, sound knowledge and simply speaking voice are accentuated, and his mischievous looks beautiful. We have sent this CD set for all our friends as a preview to such benefits. Try a concert or performance, when he describes what he feels like he played the suites and dissected it with Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Minuet, Gigue and go so on. No one in the audience is left behind, finding meaning and understanding in his statement of the components. It will be changed forever. Rating: 5.5
I have heard with these suites for more years than I want to admit it, but I’ve never heard a performance of them with life, feeling and depth of the Bailey. Before buying this I had never heard of him. His interpretation of these works emphasizes the great sweep of melody and energy, which are actually dancing and not yet in the Sarabande they whisper with such incredible sophistication and magic, without being bored by over-refinement. I have the Yo-Yo Ma, Isserlis, Fournier, Starker possession, and Bylsma performances and none of them have the power of commanding Bailey’s. I have also heard to one of the Casals recordings, and while it was this recording that first led this work for me, has the age of the sound at a disadvantage. If this music Check out the samples love, I hope you can hear them as ich.Ein reservation, my love for this recording has the unfortunate result of my music on my hundreds of other classic hard disks were far less frequent. I bought this CD yesterday (2/21/10), was after watching Zuill Bailey at a concert in Fairbanks – his performance of the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Orchestra of the anesthetic; vivid, precise, committed – and then for his encore, he played two movements from the Bach Cello Suites – he conquered the audience with his music. My son is a young cellist, and someone tampered with the seating arrangements so that we have a prime position to him perform observed had – and it was a play – his body language and his breathing both seemed sometimes over the edge, almost as if they may overshadow the music. But somehow he got on the right side of the line – he has convinced me that his performance on an understanding of music was based – an honest attempt, the feelings of the music with the audience to express. At the end of his second encore he held the last note for what seemed like an eternity, that in a silence that lasted faded for perhaps twenty seconds (my son told me today that he counted to 20 ..) I have the CD hear almost non-stop music since I came home from the concert – the music is familiar – I have owned the Rostropovich double CD of the Bach suites, as they release’s – but I always found his interpretation to be sad, full of Russian sadness. When the Berlin wall fell and I heard that Rostropovich through the checkpoint at the Bach suites for solo cello sat “because of the joy,” I wondered what he was talking about. But Bailey shows that Rostropovich was right – this is the music of joy, and Bailey will prove it. And I’m glad to hear his proof. . . Rating: 5.5
